Cross Laminated / Mass Timber
Cross-laminated timber is an engineered wood product consisting of sawn wood planks glued together in alternating-direction layers to form structural panels for construction. Varying in size and thickness, CLT makes use of otherwise unusable small-size, softwood lumber –an abundant, renewable resource. As a material, CLT panels are structurally versatile, sequester significant quantities of carbon, and are 100% recyclable.
Wood Fiber Insulation
Wood fiber insulation (WFI) is a direct replacement for petrochemical-based foam insulation in above-grade construction assemblies. Unlike foam, WFI is vapor permeable, a crucial property in exterior applications. The OPAL Build system employs our sister company’s Timber HP wood fiber insulation produced in our own factory in Madison, Maine, using abundant, renewable, recyclable softwood fiber in a zero-waste process that results in a finished product with a negative carbon footprint.
High Performance Windows & Doors
The OPAL Build system incorporates high performance doors and windows with the most advanced design, highest manufacturing quality, and highest energy performance. Triple glazed aluminum windows are energy-efficient and durable, allowing large glazed areas that allow for views and light, while conserving energy and maintaining a comfortable interior.

Operational Performance
We build to the passive house standard. An OPAL BUILD envelope uses 80-90% less operational energy than conventional code-compliant construction, while providing a healthier, more comfortable living environment.
We create an airtight, blower-door-tested building shell super-insulated to R45 at the walls and R80 at the roof with high-performance windows and doors.
Carbon Negative
Our all-wood building envelope system reduces the carbon footprint of new construction by 80% or more, owing to the stored carbon in the CLT structural system and the wood fiber insulation. A biogenic, high-performance, fully renewable and recyclable, complete above-grade building envelope provides the construction industry the next generation of climate solitons.
Zero Waste
15% of construction materials end up in landfills because the component materials are difficult to separate or recycle. The breakthrough in an all-wood construction system is that any off cut we generate in our factory can be chipped and added as feedstock for our sister wood fiber insulation production facility.
Healthy
All wood, all natural; a fully vapor permeable building shell means no trapped moisture, creating a healthy indoor environment for people with asthma and allergies. Our system is free of fibers that can be irritating and reduce air quality and is completely free of toxins. All-natural biogenic materials result in a construction system that is high performing, high efficiency, and healthy for people and the planet.
